75-Year-Old Woman BEATEN for not being “Good”

Around the world, every day, women are treated as less than human - as if they are animals, who should not think for themselves or live from their own inner guidance.

The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, feared by many Saudis, is made up of several thousand religious policemen charged with duties such as enforcing dress codes, prayer times and segregation of the sexes. Under Saudi law, women face many restrictions, including a strict dress code and a ban on driving. Women also need to have a man’s permission to travel.

It’s time the world makes a distinction between goodness and greatness. And it’s time we all rise to greatness.

Family Secrets

Every family has secrets. Mine is no exception.

When I first heard that my mom was going to share our family secrets with the world on-line, I wasn't too thrilled. Some things are better kept private, you know?

Then as she began writing her story, I read it and realized that if she was going to tell it, she might as well tell it all!

Because being vulnerable is what would have people really relate to her, and she has some incredible gifts to offer people.

So among other things, she reveals,

- her Mormon upbringing (and the way too personal meeting she had with Stephen Covey–yes, THAT Stephen Covey),

- how she gave birth to 7 children in 9 years (guess who gave her the most trouble?)

- how she risked eternal damnation and excommunication to stand up for herself and her children (and then defended herself in court–and won!)

- how she sent the tax man running, when he came to take what she had (and profited wildly by turning the tables on him)

- how she used her faith to heal one of her sons, and make other miracles happen,

Judgment Walls As A Tool of the Positionary Mind

The young child is adored by her parents. In their eyes she can do no wrong. She is precious, perfect. Even when she messes her diaper, she’s a little miracle.

Her parents seem to be all powerful. They can get the cookies down from the top shelf. And they’re all knowing too. They know how to tie shoes and count to 20. Her parents are her grasp on reality—what’s what, who’s who, and why things do what they do.

Then one day, mom comes home after being stuck in traffic and sees the house a mess. She hasn’t had any time to herself in a long time. She’s been giving so much, working so hard, and now the house is a mess again.

Around the corner comes the adorable little girl, so happy to see mommy, and in that instant she sees the glare in her mom’s eyes, hears the shriek of her voice and her towering presence over her. The little one is petrified.

She cries out, her whole world is upside down. The one who knows everything, the one who gave her life, the one to takes care of her, the one who she depends on for love and survival is suddenly a threat to her existence—or so it seems.

What is she to do? What can she do?

As the child grows older, she learns a few basic strategies to deal with this pain.

She learns ways of finding separation from her parents’ eyes and voice, so she’s not hurt by their looks of disapproval, or the subtle mockery in their voices. Eventually, as she begins to form her own identity among her peers, she becomes more self-conscious and the extra shaming from her parents only adds fuel to the fire.

She stays in her room a lot. She puts on her headphones and listens to music. She spends a lot of time with friends, who understand her and approve of her. She leaves the house a lot, finds other things to do. She covers her ears and runs out of the room, when necessary.

And there’s another way she finds separation. She erects walls of judgment. If mom is a psycho basket case, then when mom’s yelling at her, it sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher. Waa Waa Waa Waa Waa Waa Waa Waa. And, it doesn’t hurt as much that mom disapproves.

Any kind of judgment works. Maybe mom is too old, too conservative, too tight, too out of touch, too controlling, too manipulative, too mean, too ___________________.

What works is that mom’s looks and words of disapproval don’t hurt as much anymore.

Then, when she’s in school and the cool group of girls laugh at her, she learns to look down on them. They’re stupid, or preppy, or arrogant. Again, any judgments will do the trick. It works for the girl’s mind, because it’s less painful to be in their presence or to think of them.

As the girl dates, and is rejected by the guy she adores. It hurts. Judgments help give her the strength to let go and move on.

But over time, the girl has erected a set of emotional and mental walls that begin to keep her separate and alone, a virtual prisoner in a self-made jail. And she’s getting really good at it. She knows how to shame someone just with a roll of her eyes. Inside, though, she’s hurting. She just may not know how much she’s hurting. Others may not know. Until she starts to find ways to medicate herself or find approval among peers, who are also hurting.

By this time, her parents have little influence. It hurts them that their daughter won’t open up to them fully. It hurts that she says mean things to them. They raised her, supported her, sacrificed so much for her, loved her through it all—and now she’s so distant, and sometimes as cold as ice.

They don’t know what to do. They too are hurting deeply. To be rejected, even hated by their flesh and blood, by the little precious baby they gave birth to. What could hurt more deeply? Silently her parents blame themselves, and each other. And, of course, when their daughter looks at them or speaks to them in a disrespectful way, they sometimes lash out—further fueling their daughter’s pain, and justifying her fears that they don’t love her, don’t see her, and don’t understand her.

Sometimes the young girl may try to open up and explain. And her parents, assuming they understand and wanting to help, offer her advice–from behind their own judgment walls. And she feels it. She can’t hear their words, because she senses their disapproval. They think they’re listening. She knows they’re not.

And so the separation grows ever wider. At some point, a comfortable distance of separation is reached, and everyone comes to accept each other. “Such is life,” they say. And they give up on the impassioned dreams and desires for deeply intimate, loving family bonds. Sure, they laugh together, visit each other, talk to one another, and everything’s fine.

But there’s no vision for it being any other way.

Their Judgment Walls keep them from being able to see and speak to the heart of the other.

Judgment Walls are an integral tool of the Positionary Mind. Judgment Walls limit our vision, but they keep us protected from being hurt—or at least it appears that way.

Over the years, the separation caused by the walls brings far more suffering than the pain of being judged in the moment.

Judgments, however, can be a powerful way to force yourself and your views on others. They can be used to have people do what you want, because they fear you, or fear being judged by you. Whether we realize it or not, most of us are judgment Jedi’s! We can swing our sword of our judgment in the blink of an eye.

Many people have become very successful in today’s Positionary World using Judgments as tools and weapons. It’s obvious to see in those who walk all over others to get their way, but most of those they walk over, no doubt stand in judgment of them.

So, how do we protect ourselves from our parents’ and other authorities’ judgments of us? By building our own walls of judgment, which in turn hurt them. Of course, they then make their walls even thicker which hurts us more. And, on and on it goes….

Why are our parents and other authorities in our lives often so incapable of really seeing us and speaking to our hearts? Why do they use fear, guilt and shame to enforce their views on us? Why are they so distant? Or, so intrusive? Or, so insensitive? Or ______________?

Consider that they grew up in the same crazy world we’re living in now. They faced the judgments of the world, to be who they have become. Inside each adult is a wounded child, longing to be seen and honored for who they truly are.

In Honor of Those Who Will Stand Next Week

Next Wednesday a few dozen individuals from around the world are gathering here in Austin, Texas to take a stand for their lives, for our lives and for life itself. They are those who are willing to claim the title of visionary, simply be being a conscious being with a choice to see and create a better world in the face of great adversity. They are those who are willing to look within, face what there is to face, find something worth standing for and come together to create a world that works for everyone.

We are at the dawn of a new era, in which human beings own our full power to create. It begins by stepping into a sacred relationship with self, others and all that is.

The work we do at the VisionForce Boot Camp is quite simple, yet very profound, and it has great implications for the world we live in.

The next domain of technology that will transform the world we live in is the inner domain of human relationship–relationship to self, others, the planet, the universe, the divine, etc. For nearly five decades we’ve been flying into outer space and landing upon the moon, but we seem to find it more challenging to traverse the inner space required in landing within the sacred realm of another’s heart, let alone our own. This is the next frontier. It’s an invitation to all those who dare to explore and pioneer new paths for connecting with others, even and especially those seemingly opposed to us, and creating together.

Already, there is a growing movement around the world, as noted by Paul Hawken in his book, Blessed Unrest, of organizations that are rising up to cross divides, stand together and create a better world.

One such organization is the Pachamama Alliance, which we are honoring at our March Boot Camp, in calling out specifically for 44 inspired leaders who are willing to stand with us to “bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on the planet.”

Today, I honor those who are journeying here next week to “face everything, avoid nothing and stand for humanity.”

I'm writing tons of music, getting clear on what I stand for, I can sing and dance all over a stage and get a crowd hoppin. I'm even co-writing on a project for an animation and the message inherent in all of my work is of self-empowerment, community, and a movement for a better world. In addition to all of that, I've been working on my craft for over ten years. For over a year I toured Tokyo as a soloist, just for fun; played in New York since I was a teeny bopper; been writing and recording since I was 14. Now I've decided to get serious about my career and about the stand I wish to take as a role model in pop culture.

The only problem is, I'm addicted to being poor!

Thanks to a new friend and teacher I've become painfully aware of a sense of guilt that I feel in standing for my own financial well being, as a musician . Thus, I've always relied on other work as a source of income and just been too ashamed to pursue music as a career. Thus, I've always been a starving artist.

I'm going to a powerful training on November 28th, 2007. The name of the organization is VisionForce. It's a five day bootcamp and the teacher, Michael Skye, is already kicking my butt!! In a few short weeks he's got me fully aware of the strongest impediment to my success (me!). I fully believe that I'll emerge from this training as a true visionary that lives to inspire you, and still stands for being a paid artist. As a paid artist, I can do a much better job of inspiring you and writing great music and getting the word out on the many causes that I want to spearhead.

The program costs $1,295.00, plus airfare to Austin, TX. I have NO IDEA how I'm going to get there except perhaps by the kindness and belief of you. This is the first time I'm ever openly asking for help, so forgive me if I'm clumsy. Michael believes so completely in me that he's already involved me in the training. This stuff is scary but exciting!

But guess what? I've already received my first contribution in the amount of $650!! Thank you Emced, of 20/20 Multi-Media!! So now I'm already down to $650.00 plus airfare. [Vision Cafe - Visionaries Unite!] BOOT CAMP!

Hi there -

My name is Shawn David Madden. I am a musician, entrepreneur, and visionary event producer. We may have met already on the playground here at Zaadz, we may not.

Either way, I am compelled to write to you today, because the world is burning - and baby, I'm driving a FIRE TRUCK!

I know - sounds crazy right? Check this out:

Back in January of this year, I was minding my own business, setting up my profile and wandering around making friends, when I stumbled upon an organization that was calling for “30 Visionaries Willing to Face Everything and Avoid Nothing to Stand for Humanity” to come to Austin and participate in a Boot Camp in March.

They talked about a young man in Uganda named Clovis, who had taken their training materials and transformed his own life and the lives of the people in his community. They issued a challenge to all visionaries to take on their lives in this fashion.

I was totally and completely inspired. Finally! After all this time and preparation, I was finally being called to action.

I registered, and the impact was immediate: my life suddenly took on a new dimension of urgency and importance. It was time to kick into high gear and start bringing my best to everything I did.

In the context of living my life as one of 30 visionaries from all over the planet chosen to come to Austin and train as a world-changer, the everyday details of my life were suddenly very simple to handle, and I found myself operating at a much higher level.

Eating more healthy foods, meditating, exercising, and showing up early everywhere are some examples of how the process of simply PREPARING for Boot Camp brought new energy to my life.

Was there adversity? You bet – people telling me I was crazy, financial barriers, the ever-helpful voices in my head that tell me I should just give it up and live a normal life already …

It didn't matter. I had heard the call, and I needed to answer. I didn't really have a choice.

By the time I arrived in Austin, I was ready to get down to business; to “face everything and avoid nothing” - and I really had no idea what that meant! I only knew that I was READY.

I met thirty-plus individuals from all over the planet – many of them Zaadzsters – all of whom were as committed to having an impact on the world as I, and all of them passionate about creating a future world that works for everyone.

Simply put: it was AWESOME.

Here's an idea what it was like. Imagine:

Early morning runs in the warm dark mists of central Texas …

Long, hot yoga sessions, leaving you long and lean with deep open breath …

Delicious organic food lovingly prepared by a couple of wonderful, sweet ladies and eaten with reverence and gratitude …

Deep late-night conversations with other visionary leaders, leading to intimate connections that I am certain will last a lifetime …

… And five days of conversation grounding each and every one of us in a profound feeling of Honor, giving us each a platform upon which to STAND for humanity …

… Five days of being so moved by the power that each and every human being on the planet is capable of generating with an open heart, a Stand, and the power of Vision …

That was in March. Since then, I have relocated to Austin to build my vision from scratch and to help bring VisionForce to the next level.

My fiancee Jennifer also participated in Boot Camp in July, and the two of us together are creating what we call 'The Most Amazing Relationship EVER” based on the Honor that we feel for ourselves, each other, and our relationship.

Every day I experience Honor as a tangible feeling that guides my actions, and when I find myself experiencing doubt or guilt or shame – as does every Visionary that has ever walked the earth – I have tools to bring me back to square one.

I am grateful that I heard the call – and even more so that I acted upon what I heard - and I invite you to check yourself – in your gut, right now – and ask:

Are you *destined* for something greater than your life as it is now?

Haven't Iyou always been looking for an opportunity to create YOUR vision for the future?

Can you really afford to wait another day?
